Amcorp Power wins prestigious IET Industry Award from worlds’ largest engineering institution

Amcorp Power Sdn Bhd (“Amcorp Power”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Amcorp Properties Berhad (“Amprop”) was accorded the prestigious Institution of Engineering and Technology (“IET”) Industry Award for its solar power project based in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, the Amcorp Gemas 10.32MW Solar Power Plant. The award was presented at IET’s Prestige Lecture & Award Dinner 2018 held in Kuala Lumpur, which was attended by Yang Berhormat Yeo Bee Yin, Malaysia’s Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, members from the Professional Engineering Institutions/Bodies, Government Agencies, Universities, Engineering Industrial Companies and IET members/non-members.

IET is renowned as the world’s largest engineering institutions with over 168,000 members in 150 countries. The institution is multidisciplinary to reflect the diverse nature of engineering in the 21st century. The IET Industry Award recognizes 10 companies in Malaysia which made outstanding contribution to public health, services, training, safety and welfare through their activities and initiatives. Winners are evaluated on their project’s engineering and technology principles, originality/innovation, complexity, social significance and economic impact.

The Amcorp Gemas 10.32MW Solar Power Plant (“Plant”) is developed by Gubahan Ceria Sdn Bhd and Cemara Angsana Sdn Bhd, both wholly owned subsidiaries of Amcorp Power.

The Plant commissioned in December 2013 with an original capacity of 10.25MW, on a plot of 34-acre land. It achieved an amazing Commercial Operation Date within 4 months of construction period. The Plant later upgraded its capacity to 10.32MW in October 2017.

List of accredited awards won by the Plant includes The Malaysia Book of Records’ recognitions as the Largest Grid-Connected Solar Farm in Malaysia (2014) and Frost & Sullivan’s Malaysia Solar System Company of the Year – Malaysia Best Practices Award (2015).

Since its inception, the Amcorp Gemas 10.32MW Solar Power Plant has generated a total of 53,827 MWh of renewable energy with estimated carbon emission reduction of 39,886 tonnes of CO² or 6,621 tonnes coal burnt avoided in equivalent. Energy generated has been distributed to more than 9,000 users in Gemas and part of Tampin district for domestic, commercial and industrial use.

Operations at the Plant is automated and is manned by trained personnel who carry out daily duties and scheduled maintenance work to ensure continuous optimum output from the power plant. Sophisticated monitoring software are used to detect any anomaly to ensure immediate on-site checking and rectification by qualified technicians and built in surge protection devices in the solar inverters and external SPD are added into the system to protect the solar system from sudden current surges. All of these are the continuous upgrading and enhancement efforts undertaken by the Amcorp 10.32MW Solar Power Plant to ensure stability and integrity to the Plant’s solar system.
