Yayasan Azman Hashim (YAH) Donates RM13.9m to build Sports Complex in Sibu Jaya

Yayasan Azman Hashim (YAH) donated RM13.9million for the construction of an Integrated Sports Complex in Sibu Jaya. A ground breaking ceremony was held on 23 November 2019. The Sports Centre is estimated to be completed in August 2021 and will serve a population of 32,000 locals to have a safe and conducive workout environment. The state government has named the proposed multiple-use sports facility complex as “The Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre” in recognition of the donor.

The community sports centre would have a football field and an outdoor 8-lane athletic track complete with comfortable covered seating for spectators. The track would be made of IAAF Certified Herculan Rubberised Track System paved on a suspended slab and will meet requirements to host regional meets including the Asean level competitions.

There will be also a separate multi-purpose indoor stadium which can house multiple sporting activities from basketball, futsal, volleyball, badminton and even gymnastic meets with changing rooms, toilets, shower facilities and also an alfresco outlet for basic sporting necessities and supplies.

Yayasan Azman Hashim (YAH)
was established by Tan Sri Azman Hashim in 1991 with an ultimate goal to support education, help the handcore poor and alleviate human suffering.

Sibu Jaya has come a long way since its humble beginning in 1994; it is now a vibrant township located just 1km from Sibu Airport. Visitors can get to Sibu Jaya via the Pan-Borneo highway, which also links Sibu to Kuching and Miri. Another plus point is that Sibu Jaya is located on higher ground as opposed to some areas in Sibu which are prone to flooding.

With solid support from the state government, many amenities have been built and various public services such as schools, police station, hospital, fire & rescue station and public library are in place to benefit the current population of Sibu Jaya. To date, there are more than 6,000 homes built in the township by the developer, Amcorp Properties Berhad (AmProp).  There are 300 commercial shophouses to cater not only to Sibujaya residents but also those further away in rural areas such as Kapit, Kanowit, Selangau, Durin and so forth.
